After 231 days the seemingly impossible has happened, a compromise has been made between the governing parties to form a new government. Hooray!
Due to the large budget deficit, significant reforms are necessary. The impact of these reforms on the labor market and the IT landscape remains somewhat of a question mark. Probably the exact measures and their impact will become clear later, but now that the agreement is in place, certain aspects are reassuring and even positive...
As such we were already happy to read that the new establishment has formally recognized the critical role of IT and data consultancy in driving innovation within public services. For example the policy outlines significant steps to enhance data governance and digital services across the government sector, aiming to establish a clear and efficient framework.
At the heart of the policy is the commitment to robust data governance, managed by the Federal Public Service Policy and Support (FOD BOSA).
This initiative aims to ensure compatibility and interoperability across governmental data projects, securing data ownership within individual government services.
The focus is on maintaining high standards of data quality and supporting innovative digitalization projects that can serve as benchmarks for both the public and private sectors.
The government policy also underscores the importance of leveraging external IT and data consultants to maintain and advance specialized functions.
This approach is not only aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies but also at integrating advanced technologies like AI responsibly within public systems.
Consultants are seen as key players in implementing these technologies, driving forward the government's digital transformation agenda.
The shift towards a more tech-driven government is expected to stimulate the labor market, particularly in areas of data analysis, AI, and cybersecurity.
There is a growing demand for professionals skilled in these areas to support the government's ambitions, indicating a potential rise in specialized training programs and job opportunities in the sector.
Belgium's strategic focus on IT and data consultancy illustrates the government's proactive approach to strenghtening innovation and establishing a coherent framework for digital governance.
We at Dark Light, are already looking forward on working closely with government organizations to support them in their data-driven projects, establishing the connection between the necessary professionals, many of you, who will be crucial to our government's success in this area.
