In todays world, many progressive companies are scaling up their data & business intelligence teams with external experts. As Dark Light, we play a vital role in connecting the right consultants with these companies for temporary projects. In this, we work with our own consultants (on payroll), as with a specifically selected group of freelancers.
During the past months, we had the feeling that there was a discrepancy between what our clients wanted in terms of post-COVID remote work and what our freelance community was looking for. As W. Edwards Deming said, "without data, you're just another person with an opinion", so therefore we launched 2 polls in our network to see what people in the field experience. One poll was for freelancers, one poll was for companies (or managers within companies) to see how many days they respectively wanted remote work. We had more than 100 responses, from a diverse population.
Here below you can see the results:
Let me begin by concluding that according the results of this mini poll, there isn't such a big discrepancy as we expected. Almost 50% of freelancers AND companies are very happy with 2 to 3 days remote work. With the fact that almost the same amount of people (12% of freelancers vs 15% of companies) don't really care about how much remote work is being done, we can see that almost 2/3 of freelancers and companies are aligned.
However, 1/3 of the freelance respondents wanted the possibility of working 100% remote, whereas only 1/5 of the company respondents are ok with the possibility of full remote work. So without overstressing these results, one can consider that in this war for talent, companies should be open for full remote work in order to attract great experts.
But hey... that's just one man's opinion... :)
